Stunning First-Floor Renovation

A Farmhouse-Inspired Transformation

Project Information

In late 2023, these new homeowners and brand-new parents reached out to us with a challenge: Reconfigure their entire first floor to be more functional for their growing family. They wanted to expand their kitchen while creating a more open and usable living space. While an addition was initially considered, we pivoted and decided to work within the existing footprint of the home, saving both time and money for the client.

To achieve a dramatic transformation, we took a multi-faceted approach. We borrowed almost two feet from an adjacent hall bathroom and removed the walls that previously separated the kitchen, dining room, and living room areas. We also relocated the basement staircase to the front of the house to allow for a better use of the space. Finally we added a new slider in the dining room area for indoor/outdoor entertaining.

The heart of the renovation however was the new, significantly larger kitchen. To achieve the client’s desired farmhouse feel, the contractor was able to tray the ceiling, allowing space for new custom wood beams. A large maple wood island was installed, beautifully complementing the gorgeous Brazilian cherry floors.

The result is a beautiful yet timeless space that will serve this young family for years to come. This project showcases how strategic design and clever space planning can completely transform a home without the need for a costly addition. It’s a testament to creating gorgeous, functional spaces that meet the unique needs of every client.
